My 5-Step Morning Routine

My 5-Step Morning Routine to Win the Day.

Picture this - the alarm goes off, you wake up to your phone, see a bunch of emails, a few Teams notifications, and a missed call from your manager or client.

PANIC ATTACK!

For the next few hours, you find yourself juggling between tasks and putting out fires left, right and center.

High pressure, high stress, high anxiety...

I know I've had way too many mornings like these during my 6+ years in consulting.

There's a way to flip the script though - a morning routine to reduce stress and boost our productivity.

Here's mine, it's been a game-changer for me, but definitely feel free to tweak it and make it your own:

1) Rise early: 7am is my sweet spot, it gives me 2 hours before the 9am calls, emails and notifications. Experiment with yours.

2) Make your bed: Super cliche, I know, but it works. It's a task accomplished and it sets the tone for the day ahead.

3) Energize the body: That can look like some stretching, a quick workout, or a courageous cold shower.

4) Plan and reflect: I like doing a 5 minute journal that includes - 3 things I'm grateful for, 1 intention for the day and 3 bad things that could happen.

And I love this last point because if anything bad happens, I'm mentally and emotionally prepared for it.

5) Work deeply: Block 2 hours of uninterrupted time to complete the biggest and most complex task of the day. No phones, no internet, no distractions.

So now it's 9am, and while the team is preparing for the day ahead, you've already scored some personal wins, worked your mental resilience muscles, and completed the biggest task of the day.

You're calm, in control, ready to lead the day, instead of reacting to it.

Want to give it a shot? Try it tomorrow morning, and let me know how it works for you. I'd love to know!
